We hosted a meeting last night at The Pikey for volunteers to come by and learn about KCTV. While we did have a few folks show, ( Thanks Chuck, Paul and Molly) it wasn't as much of an info session as I hoped.
And so today I will write what I had hoped to explain last evening.
One of the central tenants of this station will be local coverage. Whether it's sports, news, events, nature or anything else, it will be better received if it comes from local people telling local stories.
The idea is, if you live in Gilchrist or Malin, you see the stories that are happening in your neighborhood. You know the players, you know the landscape, you know the details and what better way to share those stories than to go to the locals to report on those stories.
It's really not a new concept. If you look at any of the streaming news services like AP NEWS or SKY News, https://news.sky.com/story/no-resolution-after-intensive-talks-over-birmingham-bin-strikes-as-labour-councillor-quits-13344626 they have locals from Bangladesh or Mozambique telling the stories that happen in their communities. And while Klamath County is a bit more 21rst century than certain neighborhoods in Bangladesh, we in many ways have the same kind of remote challenges that they face.
And so we will help small town America by using the talent of Small town America to tell the stories of Small Town America. And we'll even pay you for it.
If we use your story that you send to us through our website (www.klamathcommunity.Tv), we will pay you $50 per story. Now it needs to have good story telling and sound and pictures to be usable, but just like the stories of AP News, we dont need flashy reporters or stand ups with live commentary. We need simple stories told about the town you live in told well.
Now if this sounds interesting to you, email me at Info@klamathcommunity.tv and title it, I WANT TO REPORT FROM (MY TOWN).
You don't need a fancy degree or a big camera to tell the stories of the day. A cell phone (shot in landscape mode) and simple script is all we need, but to do it well, that will take some practice. And we go live on May 1 with our first newscast so you have time to perfect your story telling skills, and we will even give you some constructive criticism if you want to share it. Small town America deserves news, so we will ask small town America to report on it. Thank you.
